My Mozilla Meetup Plan for 2K17

For the upcoming new year, I was thinking rather than making a 'New Year Vow' I could make a crystal clear annual plan and sort out the needs and accomplishments of my life, in a strategic way. Likewise, for a community it is necessary to make a strategic plan in order to trace the success and failure rates.

Moreover, for a community like "Mozilla TamilNadu" could accomplish great height only if each contributor envisions for the greatest height in the area of contribution or as a whole.

My visionary for 2K17:-

  • To engage more active women participants to contribute for "WomozTN" by focusing  institutions which have higher ratios of women students.
  • To help rural women to connect to internet.
  • To ensure regular regional meetups.
  • To contribute in WebVR  by designing source codes using A-Frame.
  • To get a surface level knowledge on creating Add-Ons and develop programs using Rust language.

Localisation with Mozilla WoC16

Treasure Hunt @ Mozterious Island

Part-I: Localisation

We a crew of 3 members started our journey to a Mozterious Island. Our backpacks were filled with prerequisites which included- inquisitiveness and patience to learn new stuffs. In the mid of this journey a treasure hunt drew our attention which was by name #mozillatnwoc16.  The challenge was to hunt for the treasures inside the four treasure boxes. They were tagged like this-

Treasure box #1- Localisation
Treasure box #2- SUMO
Treasure box #3- Firefox Nightly
Treasure box #4- Add-Ons

These four treasure boxes sparkled, this made us sure of the fact that we are going to acquire something very precious. Our interest to discover more about the treasures grew unambiguous.  We had no idea on what was inside the treasure box, we were scrambled!

The natives of this island @Iamvp7 and @hellokarthic  monitored our enthusiasm to explore the treasure boxes. They gave us a key by name @khaleeljageer to open the first box. Finally, we opened the box after a long awaited excitement. Guess what was in it?

Yes, we gained the “Treasure of Knowledge”. We wanted to utilize these treasures not only for our personal development but also for the enhancement of our community #mozillatn.

In this Treasure box #1- Localisation, we found how to make the Internet- World a place for even a lay man to survive, thus making it avail in vernacular languages. In order to favor our community we contributed in our native language- Tamil.

Moreover, we found two magical wands during our exploration, they were-
Using the above we made contributions to our community in order to uplift it to the next level. From our side we contributed a total of 210 suggestions.

My teammates have got something to share with you all about this Treasure box #1 which we have just excavated.

Our venture doesn’t end here. With more oomph and enthusiasm we will move further to unbolt the other three treasure boxes!

Stay tuned......

Firefox 48 Beta 3 Testday

Discovering a New Alley

Firstly, I am very glad to contribute to the #MozillaFirefox through my contributions on the Beta Testday.

To be very true, this was the first time where I was indulged into a pure technical lush of testing and debugging the errors. It was very exciting! Since I am just in the apprentice level of learning I am not much exposed to these kinds of stuffs but when I started to test the cases my interest towards dealing with bugs rocketed.

The best part of the day was obtaining the expected “output”. I was enthralled to learn a lot many things on the go. I wasn’t much dejected when I encountered with an error because I knew the way to tackle it too, using the help of #Bugzilla bugs were well managed.

Exploring the undiscovered path is always fantastic! Likewise, I realized that there are many opportunities in testing and debugging field viz., the IV & V (Independent Verification and Validation) units. The IV & V sector plays a major role in ‘Software Cycle’ before the deployment of the product. Therefore getting prior skills and pioneer in the field is essential for a Software Developer which I was able to witness through this program.

To sum up, the Beta Test Day gave me a good exposure to technical stuffs and it was a great way of learning through a practical manner. I thank Mr. Prasanth and #mozillatn for having faith on me that I would be able to support the mission and also for guiding me very accurately to explore this undiscovered path.

Weeks of Contribution 2K16!!

A JOURNEY TO REVAMP OUR COMMUNITY

It is very amusing that MozillaTN has taken yet another initiative this year through its launch of Weeks of Contribution with a keen squad of trainers and contributors. I am very proud to be the trainer for #mozillatnwoc16.

Firstly, the reason why I have joined WoC is that I would like to enhance my skills in the four areas (Localisation, SUMO, Firefox Nightly and Add-ons) which are eventually going to be the major areas of focus of WoC for this academic year.

Secondly, I am very much enthusiastic in mastering the Open Source Softwares viz., SeaMonkey,  Thunderbird,  BlueGriffon  etc., which will help me to expertise in my stream.

"Knowledge Shared = Knowledge Gained”
Likewise I have got a splendid platform to execute “knowledge-sharing”. Furthermore, I have formed a crew of 3 members who are enthralled to be the contributors of this mission. They are as follows:
  •           Arif Nassar
  •           Fahima Zulfath. A
  •           Manjula. V

Moreover, we are fortunate to work under the guidance of our skilled mentors- Mr. Viswaprasath and Mr. Karthikeyan, who are going to help us in this journey to excavate knowledge.

In addition to this, I would also like mention here that I am the Club Lead of my college, so I want my college mates to get benefited out the services and swags provided by Mozilla Firefox and I hope this way it will inspire them to contribute more to this community. I would also like to promote more women in Mozilla through my contribution to #WoMoz.

Finally, I thank MozillaTN for giving me this opportunity to enhance and expand my networks and knowledge.

ALL SET TO BEGIN THE JOURNEY!
